Well I finally did it, I broke down and bought a Macbook.
My parents agreed that instead of gifts this year they'd give me money towards getting a Macbook, it's the only thing I really wanted and I'm pretty overdue for a new computer. My little Dell has served me well though, and I'll miss it. But it's time to move on! :) I'm officially a Mac Girl now!
Here's my Dell latitude x300 next to the Macbook, it looks funny because it's an old school square screen next to a landscape screen on the Mac.
Even the box is really nice, and it better for the price lol!
I'm still figuring everything out on it but the setup was SO INCREDIBLY EASY. I love it already. I'm going to take my time over the next couple weeks to move everything over from my old laptop and really set this baby up the way I like it.
I also made a little decision today, I've been thinking about it but now I'm really going to start doing it. I'm going to start taking classes again. Yep, goin back to school. That's another reason I wanted to go ahead and get a good quality laptop. It will take a long time but I really want to be able to have a career that is more fulfilling to me and has some meaning.
I really think I'm going to go for social work. I'd love to be a counselor or therapist of some sort. Maybe I'd work with the elderly or be a marriage counselor. I'm not sure yet but I know I'm drawn to talking with people and helping/guiding them. For the last month or so I've been volunteering with my church and visiting people in nursing homes once a week. It means so much for the ladies I visit to have someone to just spend a little time with them, and I enjoy it so much I never want to leave! I really feel I get more out of it than they do, lol.
So here's the plan:
- talk to someone in the social work dept. of UNCW to get information about the degree and job field
- get my transcripts from my Assoc. degree and see if I need any more classes before I enroll at (most likely) UNCW
- take online courses for what I can and get my job to pay for them (they'll pay for anything that could be used for a degree that I could use for work so english, math, etc but they won't pay for the actual social work core classes)
-look into financial aid and grants for when I start the core classes while still working full time (yikes!)
Thank you Dad, Mom, and Michael for helping me and encouraging me! I love you guys!
[this is good] Rock, and welcome to the Mac family.

Wow... congrats - I don't think I will ever be able to switch over to Mac's... I used one in my literature class on campus and that has to be the most difficult computer I ever used (or maybe it was so easy, it was difficult? I dunno.). But keep me posted on how you like it. And congrats on joining the "adults at college" crowd... I don't feel so bad now! And, yes, it's hard working full time and going to school (I did it for 9 years! - reason why I'm still in school!!!), but if you really want to do it, you can get it to work for you somehow. Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm so jealous...I want a Mac so badly, but I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on something I just surf the internet with! I hope you enjoy it!!!
Good luck with going back to school. I think you would make an excellent social worker or counselor. A good friend of mine went to school for social work and her entire junior/senior years were covered by New Hanover county. All she had to do was promise to work for New Hanover county for a certain number of years. It might be worth looking into, I think you can find information on it at CFNC.org.

Wow I had no idea there was a program like that, it sounds great! Thanks for telling me about it. If your friend tells you anything else about that or anything else that helped her get her degree please let me know. Have a good Thanksgiving!
